Haakon versus Victoria in Olympic battle

The shortlist of cities competing to host the 2022 Winter Olympics has been revealed and, thankfully, someone had a word with the Prince of Asturias and managed to persuade him that despite his love of the games, Madrid really wasn't the best place for elite ski-ing.  He's so keen on the Olympics, it wouldn't have been that much of a surprise if he tried to get over his 2020 Summer Games sadness with a try at getting the snowy version.  But while he may be out of this one, two of his fellow monarchs in waiting could be squaring up for an Olympic showdown.

Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden and Crown Prince Haakon of Norway with IOC member, Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark who will have a say in whether either of their countries gets the 2022 Winter Olympics

Stockholm and Oslo are both on the shortlist of six cities bidding to host the Winter Games in 2022.  The Swedish capital has never had the winter event although it has played host to the Summer Games, back in 1912.  Oslo was the setting for the 1952 Winter Games.  The chance to host this major event should see plenty of support from both royal families which will pit Victoria and Haakon against one another in a fight to get the Games to their countries.

Frederik will have to get used to looking the other way when his two friends and fellow heirs start talking Olympics as their countries battle it out to host the 2022 Winter Games

The two cities are up against Krakow in Polan, Lviv in Ukraine, Almaty in Kazakhstan and Beijing which is hoping for a repeat of its 2008 Summer Games success.  It will be a long bidding process and they might just want to have a word with Felipe who is probably just about over Madrid losing out for the 2020 Games.
