A queen sees red

It's a day named after a prince that's been the preserve of queen regnants for over a century and now it belongs to a king. Except today's Prinsjesdag in the Netherlands brought quite a lot of attention for the queen consort. Maxima stole the show in red.

Prince's Day traditionally falls on the third Tuesday of September and sees the reigning monarch travel to a meeting of the Senate and the House of Representatives where he addresses the gathered politicians in the Speech from the Throne which he outlines the government's plans for the coming year.

After that, there is a traditional appearance from the balcony and if the king had managed to keep everyone's attention during the speech, he just couldn't compete when it came to greeting the crowds. Willem-Alexander was also joined by Prince Constantijn and Princess Laurentien at the Noordeinde Palace in The Hague but all eyes were definitely on Maxima.
