Last year for the tenth anniversary they posed with their two daughters at the start of the school run before hanging out in matching jackets on a low key engagement. There were some questions asked about why they weren't making more of it but the answer to that became clear just a few days later when the surprise of the abdication of King Juan Carlos put everything in perspective. A decade on from their wedding the Prince and Princess of Asturias were preparing to become a king and queen.

The images of 2014 would be the end of one reign and the start of another. The main photos of the year were of Felipe VI and his consort on the balcony of the Royal Palace after his accession and not of a happy couple on their wedding anniversary. This year they are marking it as monarchs. It is a huge change.

It will be marked but the big articles will come in June 2015 as King Felipe celebrates the first anniversary of his reign. The first years of the royal marriage were easy compared to the first years of the new reign - as Felipe and Letizia began life as a couple the Spanish Royal Family were still hugely popular while now the new king and queen are dealing with major issues and much lower approval ratings. Things are so changeable for them right now who knows what their twelfth anniversary will bring. But they will be hoping for calmer times and easier moments as they head into a new phase in this royal marriage and settle into being king and queen.
