Paris and Letizia

It's her third trip to the city as a queen and Letizia is certainly making the most of her time in Paris. On the second day of her State Visit with King Felipe, the couple have met the Spanish born Prime Minister, visited the Senate and been to an evening reception and that's just the highlights. Letizia also found time to change into three different outfits and gave us the unusual sight of a queen carrying her own coat.

And the coat came too - Letizia and Felipe in Paris

The Queen of Spain began the day in a cream suit which looked pretty much perfect for a warm day in Paris. Along with Felipe she met the Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, before all three unveiled a tribute to the Spanish people who helped to liberate Paris in the summer of 1944.

The Mayor of Paris had warm words for the king who she called the'face of Spain' adding that she said that as a Republican. Felipe talked about the ongoing bond between France, Paris and Spain. The royal couple spent some time at the Parisian Town Hall before heading to the Senate where they met its leader.

The royal couple spent some time at the Parisian Town Hall before heading to the Senate where they met its leader. And then it was off for lunch with the Spanish born Prime Minister of France, Manuel Valls, and his wife. And Letizia had time for a quick change, appearing on the steps of their official residence in a red two piece suit with black and white coat. If at first glance it didn't quite seem to work that didn't matter. By the time she came out, the queen was carrying the coat over one arm having worn it throughout her meal. And she kept on carrying it through the afternoon, at one point resting it on her lap. Felipe and Letizia are modern in their approach to monarchy and this was something we've not seen before and shows the queen's firm ideas about doing things her way.

The biggest moment of the day was about to arrive. King Felipe, with Letizia at his side, headed to the National Assembly where he addressed its members from the floor - mostly in French. Felipe spoke of his support for a united Europe and of the common objective that the two countries shared of ensuring peace on a global level.

The last event of the day saw the third and final outfit for Letizia who brought out a familiar black cocktail dress for an audience with the director of UNESCO and a reception for the Spanish community in Paris.

The couple have one more day left in France before heading home and after a trio of outfits on both days from the Queen of Spain, day three might well bring another hat trick for Paris and Letizia.
