The Royal Wardrobe: Charlotte's christening

If ever there was a colour co-ordinated set of royal ladies, then it was this one. As Charlotte Elizabeth Diana of Cambridge arrived for her christening, she was surrounded by a sea of pastel that set the summer surroundings off to perfection. Creams, blues and pinks - of course - mingled for a match made in Royal Wardrobe heaven. Here are the highlights of the day a new princess attended her first big royal event.

A symphony of pastel for the christening of Princess Charlotte of Cambridge

We all knew what little Charlotte would be wearing - the replica of the Royal Christening gown used since 2008 - but mum Kate was more of a mystery. In the end it turned out to be cream - the same colour as she wore for George's christening in October 2013.

She also went for the same designer - Alexander McQueen has now made her wedding outfit as well as the clothes she wore to have both her children baptised.

The coat for Charlotte's big day was longer and simpler than the ruffled outfit she chose for George's. It was worn with a hat by Jane Taylor that looked very similar in style to the one chosen for her son's christening.

All in all, it matched the occasion to a tee. Cream and christenings suit Kate.

Meanwhile, Charlotte's proud great granny went for pink for a girl and looked sensational in it.

Her pale pink coat and hat matched perfectly and were complemented by a pink and grey floral print dress.

It was pretty, summery and almost stole the show when Prince George and his antics weren't grabbing everyone's attention.

The only other royal lady in attendance was the Duchess of Cornwall who chose pale pastel blue for the event.

Blue used to be the colour for a girl and Camilla's outfit featured a coat dress and hat in a striking shade with pleated skirt featuring same shade embellishments.

There was also a very odd bag and an unfortunate incident with a gust of wind which almost left the duchess red faced - fortunately she rescued the situation and avoided a colour clash between her blushes and her hat.

Princess Charlotte's maternal family matched their clothes to their royal relation with Kate's mother and sister both opting for shades of cream. Carole Middleton went for a dark version of the colour in a striking embroidered coat dress.

Her hat was very similar in shape to Kate's and appeared to have embellishments that matched the effects on the top of the coat.

Pippa Middleton chose a mid cream colour and a mid calf length coat with a fifties vibe, a high neck and a sleek silhouette.

And she also chose a small fascinator style hat ensuring a hat trick for the Middleton women as they welcomed a new girl into their ranks.

In the glowing late sun of a July afternoon it all looked rather lovely, pretty and picture perfect.
