Prince Oscar of Sweden will be christened on Friday May 27th 2016 in Stockholm
With just days to go until Prince Oscar's christening, there's a lot of anticipation building. It will be our first glimpse of the little royal for a month after his famous balcony appearance at his granddad's 70th birthday celebrations at the end of April. And it will mean another star turn from his big sister, Estelle. As Sweden's royals get ready to christen Oscar, here are five things we already know about his baptism.
A royal setting
Prince Oscar Carl Olof of Sweden, Duke of Skane, will be baptised in the Royal Chapel of the Royal Palace at the silver font commissioned by Charles XI. Much of the silver comes from Sumatra and the font was first used for the christening of the prince who would become King Gustav III of Sweden when he was christened in 1746. The water will come from a spring in Oland - a tradition first started by King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia for Crown Princess Victoria and continued for all their children and grandchildren since.
Royal clothes
Like his big sister, Estelle, his cousins, Leonore and Nicolas, and just about every royal baby born in Sweden since 1906, Oscar will wear the traditional white lace christening gown. There is a matching satin hat and a cape. And Oscar, like every other royal baby who has worn it will leave his mark on it, as his name and date of baptism will be embroidered on the inside of the cape.
A royal sash
The sash. This is fast becoming just about everyone's favourite part of a Swedish royal christening. During the ceremony, granddad King Carl XVI Gustaf will present Oscar with the Order of the Seraphim which means that the second littlest prince in Sweden will leave the Royal Chapel wearing its blue sash. It never fails to impress.
A royal snooze
While his mum and dad look anxiously at its rather low sides and everyone else hands over their gifts, Prince Oscar will spend the first part of his christening reception in an historic golden cradle. Oscar will nestle in Karl XV's crib while his parents pretend ancient baby bedroom furniture is what they really want their three month old tucked up in.
Royal guests
We don't know the full guest list yet but we do know that Oscar's royal grandparents, uncles and aunties will all be there. Cousin Leonore may well attend but Nicolas and Alexander might well be a bit too young still. And with confirmation that Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark and Crown Prince Haakon Magnus and Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway will be there, guessing on godparents is really hotting up. Roll on Friday when Prince Oscar of Sweden is christening.
