Kate on the up in June 2016

No wonder she's smiling, June 2016 has been a big success for the Duchess of Cambridge

It started and ended with evening dresses, took in hats and updos in between and ended with the firm conclusion that if she carries on like this no one will be accusing the Duchess of Cambridge of being workshy again any time soon. Kate has been everywhere this month with a run of high profile engagements and appearances at some of the most important royal events of the year. Here's a look back at Kate in June 2016.

It all began on June 9th when Kate threw open the doors of Kensington Palace for a special evening to mark the 40th anniversary of Sports Aid, of which she is patron.

We got a brand new evening dress - electric blue, bandage effect ,statement shoulders - by Roland Mouret. Note the loose hair, you won't be seeing much of that this month.

The following day, Kate joined the rest of the Royal Family at St Paul's for a special service marking the Queen's 90th birthday and the 95th of the Duke of Edinburgh.

The Duchess of Cambridge wore an ice blue coat with lace embellishment by Catherine Walker which is about as good as it gets. She also giggled quite a lot as everyone had to wait for the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh who got held up on their way to St Paul's by road problems.  And note, hair up. We're under way.

Trooping the Colour always means hats and balconies and we got both this year in epic proportions. And while it was hard not to look at the Queen's neon green outfit, the appearance of Princess Charlotte in her mother's arms got quite a bit of attention.

Kate wore the Alexander McQueen cream outfit first chosen for Princess Charlotte's christening for this year's Trooping on June 11th. There was also a new hat by Philip Treacy. The flower was fabulous but that updo will take some beating all round.

Less than twenty four hours later and the Duchess of Cambridge joined the rest of the Royal Family for the Patron's Lunch on the Mall. Kate was clearly expecting better weather but June 12th this year was grey, cool and wet.

The duchess wore a pale blue and pink pastel dress by Roksanda Ilincic for the last of the Queen's birthday celebrations and very pretty it was too. If rather chilly looking. The loose hair is back briefly - three days of back to back hairpins and hairspray would actually hurt.

After at least an hour's sleep and a cup of tea, Kate was out and about again. June 13th was the Order of the Garter ceremony in Windsor. There was more rain so we didn't get to see much of the royals but there was no missing Kate who was in bright red.

The coat is by Catherine Walker and we got red shoes. Yes, red shoes. After a royal lifetime of beige heels and navy courts, the Duchess of Cambridge wore red shoes. OK, they actually didn't match the outfit but that's red for you and the surprise was well worth it.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited the US Embassy in London on June 14th 2016 to sign a book of condolence for the victims of the Orlando shootings. William and Kate paid their respects to those killed at the Pulse club.

The afternoon saw them travel to Northern Ireland for a garden party at Hillsborough Castle under sunny skies.

The Duchess of Cambridge went for gold as well with a brocade coat by Day Birger et Mikkelson first worn ten years ago. And we got another updo.

June 2016 was all about Kate's Royal Ascot debut and she kept us all waiting. With the Crown Prince and Princess of Denmark also attending, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were in carriage four, the final one to enter the green surroundings of Ascot.

The Duchess of Cambridge wore a white lace dress by Dolce and Gabbana and a hat by Jane Taylor millinery. It was a spot on debut outfit and Kate seemed to love her day out at Ascot - perhaps a sign of more regular appearances to come?

But Kate really did save the best for last as she took her husband to an evening celebrating her charity, East Anglia Children's Hospice, in Norfolk.

Kate rewore a stunning rose gold gown by Jenny Packham while she really has the hang of this hair up thing now with a less structured up do that worked wonders.

Let's face it, we probably won't see as much of Kate as July gets under way. The summer holidays are starting, George's preschool will be breaking up for the long vacation and there will be family getaways planned. But let's hope that the pace picks up again after the summer - the Duchess of Cambridge supports a lot of good causes and gives the Royal Family a good image when she's out and about. Seeing a lot more of Kate really would be great.
