Kate, the royal photo star

Followed by cameras wherever she goes - Kate has been honoured for her own photographs

The Duchess of Cambridge will no doubt be one of the most photographed people in the world in the year to come but she's started 2017 off on the other side of the lens. Kate's new year present is to be made an honorary member of the Royal Photographic Society.

The society, founded in 1853, has honoured the Duchess for her ''long-standing interest in photography and its history'' adding that  "she is latest in a long line of royal photographers and the society is pleased to recognise her talent and enthusiasm through honorary membership''.

Kate's photos have had a high profile since her marriage in 2011 - the Duchess of Cambridge was responsible for the first photos of Princess Charlotte and for images of Prince George's first day at pre school. She was also behind the lens for the pictures taken to mark Charlotte's first birthday. And in 2012, a collection of images taken by Kate while on tour in Borneo with William made headlines.

She's not the first royal to have links to the society which counted Queen Victoria and Prince Albert among its first patrons but she is the first to be given this honour, highly prized among photographers.  Other recent recipients include veteran war photographer Don McCulling who was knighted in the New Year's Honours List.
