Sunshine at Solliden for the Summer Princess

Crown Princess Victoria rounded off her 40th birthday celebrations in a place she called her ''summer paradise''. The future queen of Sweden and her family headed to the island of Oland for the last part of her party and Victoria left no one in any doubt about how happy she was to be there for this milestone.

The last part of her actual 40th birthday was spent on the island where the traditional Victoria's Day concert took place at the Borgholm Sports Stadium. The whole Royal Family, with Victoria and mum Queen Silvia in traditional dress, left Solliden Palace by carriage for the procession to the concert. There was singing, there was dancing, there were some huge cuddles from five year old Princess Estelle. Speaking at the concert, Victoria said she was ''proud and happy'' that her birthday had ''come to be associated with this beautiful island''. And she called Oland her summer paradise, thanking its inhabitants for making her and her family so welcome there.

The following day saw Victoria out and about to greet huge crowds who had gathered at Solliden for the traditional meet and greet that is always part of her birthday celebrations. The Crown Princess was accompanied by her parents, King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia, as well as her husband, Prince Daniel, and their children, Estelle and one year old Oscar.

Everyone wanted to say hello to the birthday girl who was showered with presents, cards and flowers as she made her way through the crowds.

Her proud parents, Carl Gustaf and Silvia, seemed to take a slightly more backseat role than usual, watching on as the little girl they welcomed into the world forty years earlier threw herself into the celebrations involved thousands of wellwishers.

Estelle is a dab hand at this now and helped mum collect presents and cards with plenty of little gifts coming her way, too.

Prince  Oscar, who hadn't been quite so keen on walking when his mum put him on his pins on their way into the Te Deum the previous day, seemed intent on toddling and running as much as he could.

It was a happy day and a happy way to bring to an end the festivities for Victoria's 40th birthday. The big turnouts and waves of goodwill show just how popular this princess really is. Four decades into her royal career, the Crown Princess of Sweden has plenty to celebrate.
